“Just Dance” Star Reaches 9 Million Followers

Pop star Lady Gaga has become the first person to amass nine million followers on Twitter.

She joined the popular microblogging website in 2008, with her first Tweet announcing that she was rehearsing for her smash music video “Just Dance.” In the years since, the outre superstar has used the social networking website to put fans on the forefront of private photos, new song lyrics, and charity opportunities. Gaga recently Tweeted out information on fundraising for the Japanese tsunami and earthquake relief fund. She’s already raised over $1.5 million for quake victims.

Gaga, who is topping the Billboard charts for the sixth consecutive week with her acceptance anthem “Born this Way,” is now officially the most followed celebrity on the site. Teen heartthrob Justin Bieber is trailing in second place with just over 8.3 million followers.

Gaga, the friend of about 31 million fans on Facebook.com, has also broken the record for the most online singles sold and has had to date over one billion views on YouTube.
