Chord Overstreet Wanted Back on Glee

After announcing that Chord Overstreet won't be returning to season 3 of the musical series Glee as a regular, show producers have invited him back to reprise his role of Sam Evans.

The 22-year-old actor and musician joined the show during the second season in 2010.

On July 1, 2011, Glee creator and executive producer Ryan Murphy announced that the show will not pick up Overstreet's contract option as a series regular. New characters would be added as freshman students to replace characters who would graduate at the end of the 2011-2012 season.

However it was also announced that Overstreet's character may, on occasion, return to the show.

Chord's tweet the same day: "well its been a good yr too bad its over, time for summer and starting fresh" gave his fans the impression he is referring to the Glee news.

The announcement was timed with the wrap of "Glee Live! In Concert" tour wrap in Dublin on July 2.

Overstreet's apparent dropping disappointed Glee fans. Soon Overstreet started trending on Twitter and his fans showed their support by downloading Overstreet's Glee version of Travie McCoy's song Billionaire.

An insider has now confirmed to TVLine that Chord "is invited to continue on, same as usual, as a recurring player."

"His option to be a series regular was just not picked up at this time," clarifies the source. "If Chord wants to appear on Glee, the choice is his. The Glee writers like his Sam character, and have plans to write for him. He and his reps have been told that he is welcome back to Glee, and everyone hopes he will show up on August 10 when filming begins."
