Lady Gaga was forced to re-shoot her response to a question about Australian Prime Minister Julia Gillard and the politician’s stance on gay marriage after the pop diva mistook Gillard for a lesbian.
The eccentric pop diva made the gaffe during an interview with A Current Affair’s Tracy Grimshaw — her first television interview Down Under — on Monday night. During their chat, Grimshaw asked Gaga — a staunch campaigner for same-sex marriage and gay rights — if she thought Gillard was hypocritical for living with her partner in the PM’s official residence but also banning gay unions. The singer offered a forceful response. Grimshaw chuckled at the mix-up, which prompted Mother Monster to confess that she misunderstood because of the way the question was asked. Gaga explained that here in the States, the word “partner” is generally used by a gay person to describe their lover.
Fair enough.
The question was re-shot, with Gaga giving a much more diplomatic answer — though she nevertheless urged the PM to rethink her position on gay marriage.
