Watch out, Project Runway! NBC just got another infusion of stylish star power with the announcement that socialite Nicole Richie has joined design extraordinaire Jessica Simpson on the judging panel of the upcoming NBC reality show Fashion Star.

Simpson and Richie will join menswear designer John Varvatos as celebrity mentors on the show, which sets out to find the next big brand in fashion. Richie, who shot to fame playing Robin to Paris Hilton’s Batman on The Simple Life, heads her own fashion and jewelry lines House of Harlow and Winter Kate. Her newfound knack for style will suit her well on the series, says NBC’s Paul Telegdy.
“[We] could not have asked for better additions to the celebrity mentors than John Varvatos, one of the most well-known menswear designers in the nation and international style icon and creative director, Nicole Richie,” he exclaims. “Both are trendsetters and tastemakers and their design skills and expertise will be invaluable to our contestants on the series.”
Former supermodel Elle MacPherson will host the show, which will give unknown designers the chance to win a multi-million dollar prize to launch their lines in three of America’s largest retail stores. Ben Silverman, executive producer of Fashion Star, is thrilled about how the lineup is coming together: “Jessica, Nicole, John and Elle make the most exciting team we have ever worked with on a reality television show and we are thrilled to feature such an extraordinary group of mentors and designers.”
A debut date for Fashion Star has not been announced, but The Peacock NBC promises a “true spectacle” that wll taped in front of a studio audience, featuring music, dancers and models along with weekly challenges for the contestants.
