Henry Cavill Is The New Superman

Meet your new Man of Steel — The Tudor’s Henry Cavill!

Cavill, best known for his roles on Showtime series The Tudors and Stardust, will be putting on the red cape for a currently untitled Superman reboot to be released December 2012, Warner Bros. has confirmed. Henry succeeds the late Christopher Reeves as the superhero and his alter-ego Clark Kent in an upcoming joint venture between Warners. Bros and Legendary Pictures, Deadline.com said this weekend.

The casting comes several years after the British-born actor, 27, failed to make the cut for a another Superman film. He was a main contender for Superman Returns, which was a commercial disappointment at theaters in 2006.

“In the pantheon of superheroes, Superman is the most recognized and revered character of all time, and I am honored to be a part of his return to the big screen,” Cavill said in a press release Sunday.

Zack Snyder (300) has been commissioned to direct the film from a script written by David S. Goyer and based on a story that Goyer developed with Inception director Christopher Nolan, who will produce.
