Madhuri Dixit has reportedly declined to play Sonam Kapoor's mother in the official Bollywood remake of Freaky Friday being produced by Anil Kapoor.
Madhuri, who is in India till March for the filming of the dance reality TV show Jhalak Dhikhla Jaa, has been looking at several film offers from leading Bollywood producers.
Anil Kapoor offered Madhuri the Freaky Friday role; Anil and Madhuri go back a long time having worked together in films such as Pukar (2000), Beta (1992) and Tezab (1988).
Madhuri, 43, tweeted about Anil's offer, only to have her fans up in arms against it. They asked Madhuri to reject the offer outright, contending that she was too young to be playing a mother.
Madhuri kept an open mind. She hadn't seen Freaky Friday so she requested Anil for the film's screening, which Anil arranged. Eventually, Madhuri decided the offer.
"After much thought Madhuri has decided not to do the Indian remake of Freaky Friday. She will inform Anilji about her decision as soon as he returns from South Africa," Madhuri's Indian business manager Rakesh Nath told Mumbai Mirror.
