Kim Kardashian has incurred the wrath of volatile fellow reality star Amber Portwood after taking to her blog this month to speak out against Portwood’s popular MTV reality series, Teen Mom. The show follows a group of young mothers — and, according to Kim, glamorizes decisions that often lead to a life of hardships and government assistance.
Careful Kim, she bites!
“I saw a story about a Memphis high school where 90 young female students were either pregnant or have given birth this year! I just couldn’t believe this and I find it so sad and disturbing,” she writes in the offending post.
“It seems that shows like ‘Teen Mom’ are all of a sudden making teen pregnancy seem cool in the eyes of young girls . . .but girls, these are not people you should idolize! When I think back to when I was 16, there is no way I would even have considered having a baby.”
Calling parenthood one of the most “life-changing decisions a person can make.” Kardashian insisted “having a baby so young shouldn’t be seen as the trendy thing to do.”
She added: “Girls, please, think very carefully before you make these kind of decisions. Talk to your family, friends, teachers, and most of all, be careful.”
The socialite’s comments visibly irked Portwood, who blasted Kim and challenged the assertion that Teen Mom sugarcoats real-life young parenthood in a statement to E! News last Thursday.
“Last time I checked, Kim Kardashian had a sex tape floating around on the Internet and I’m pretty sure she made a lot of money off of it,” Portwood told the site. “She made a sex tape when she was younger and she wants to bash the girls on Teen Mom?”
Instead, Portwood — whose recent collar on felony domestic violence charges has made her one of the series’ most controversial stars — pointed out the positive effects of the show.
“There’s actually a study that shows since the original ‘16 and Pregnant’ aired, the number of teen pregnancies have gone down,” she said, emphasizing that MTV doesn’t “glamorize anything.”
“It shows the heartache we’ve all gone through. We may be ‘celebrities’ because our face is out there, but it’s only because we’ve done some bad things. That’s not glamorous.”
